Signups Open: Pinazon Giveaway Aug 27-Sep 10 #bloggers

Pinazon Giveaway  Aug 27-Sept 10

NOTE: This is NOT a giveaway, this is for bloggers to sign up for a giveaway in the future.

Callista’s Ramblings (me) and Newlywed Survival have teamed up to bring you a group giveaway to help you increase your Pinterest following and get more pins.

Giveaway Details

Dates: Aug 27 12:01 am EST – Sept 10 11:59pm EST
Prize: Amazon Card, prize TBD
Entries: Pinterest Follows and repins from your pinterest source link (explained later)
Fee: $3/Pinterest profile paid via paypal as payment owed to stacey@newlywedsurvival.com

The ONLY requirement is to post the giveaway on your blog with the rafflecopter which will be provided for you a few days ahead. We would love it if you’d post the button in your sidebar or tweet/fb share about the giveaway signups but that’s completely optional.

How the Repin Option Works

If you don’t already know, you can see what has been pinned from your blog by using this link:
http://pinterest.com/source/blogurl.com (for example mine is http://pinterest.com/source/callistasramblings.com)
If you haven’t had anything pinned from your blog, it will show a 404 error.  For your fee, you will get your Pinterest profile included for follows (a bunch of follows will be on page for a lot of entries) as well as repins from your source link. So entrants will go to your source page (as shown above) and repin one of your pins. Since they were all pinned from your blog, they will all link back to your blog.

Check your source link and if you don’t have many pins, use the time between now and the start of the giveaway to trade pins with other bloggers or pin a few things from your own blog (but just a few.)

If you want, you can join the Callista’s Ramblings Events Facebook group to get support, ask questions both about the giveaway and anything blogging related.

How to Join

To join the giveaway, USE THIS FORM

Signups end Aug 23 or when we hit 40 or so bloggers, whichever happens first.

If You Need a Button

If you like to add a giveaway button somewhere on your blog you can grab some code below. There are two sizes. Code for the button to be used in your giveaway post will be send with that info.

About Callista’s Ramblings

First of all you should know that Callista is the name I used to use online. It’s still in many of my usernames and emails but when I was younger, I was told not to use my real name online for safety. Now that I share my name with all kinds of companies anyways, I figured I might as well go by it. I prefer Kathleen anyways. I contemplated changing my  blog name a few times, not just because of the Callista thing but I didn’t want to have to go through all that renaming such with all the links and references to my blog and such.

Callista’s Ramblings Over the Years

  • Started 2003  - when I was a teen and was new to blogging. Posts from back then are mostly memes, personal thoughts and silly quizzes.
  • 2004-2006 – I posted irregularly, mostly in little spurts.
  • 2007 – Mid year I started taking blogging a bit more seriously and started trying to post regularly. Still mostly memes and such though.
  • 2008 – late in the year I started getting contacted by companies and started out with small posts with product compensation.
  • 2009 – This is when I consider myself to really be a serious blogger that works with brands. I started doing more reviews and giveaways with opinion and random posts mixed in. April 2009 I got my current design. I also accepted my first guest post.
  • 2010  - Posted the post that has received the most pageviews and searches EVER on my blog, even to this day it is the most popular and it’s very simple and I wrote it on my own. Why is an Orange Called and Orange? I also got my first “gig” with Mom Central as a Majesta Mom. I also held my first special event: Camping Week
  • 2011 – big year for brand work and building readership. I participated in my first cash giveaway and started doing blog giveaway hops and sponsored posts. I also did my first Christmas Gift Guide
  • 2012 – Realized I was getting to be too much reviews and giveaways and not other content like I had originally hoped. I’ve lately started to write other posts (such as 6 Things to Remember When Hosting a Child’s Birthday) but have been catching up on reviews. I plan on unveiling more content soon.

So it’s nice to “meet” you  and thanks for reading this. I hope you will decide to Subscribe, Like or Follow me to keep up and please introduce yourself in the comments (or say hello if I already know you!)

2012 Winter Blogathon - March 9-11

You know all those items on your Blogging To Do list? Those things you've been meaning to get to but haven't had a chance? Now's your chance to get a large amount of them done!

WHAT IT IS
I'm hosting a Blogathon for any blogger to join in and get things done. It's a 72 hour blogathon but you aren't expected to blog for 72 hours straight! Do as much as you can in that time period. If you can do 24 hours straight, awesome! If you can only do one day great. If you want to do all three days but still sleep 12 hours, great. Whatever you can do. If you can only do 2 hours during the whole event, you are still welcome to join. The idea is to set aside as much time as you can to work on your blog.

WHEN IT IS
This one is Mar 9-11, 2012. I am planning on hosting 2 a year, one in Winter and one in Summer. Next year's winter one will be earlier in the winter. I'm thinking perhaps January/February and June/July.

WHAT DO I DO
What can you do? Anything! Some ideas:
  1. Transfer your blog to wordpress (if you want)
  2. Write up some blog posts and schedule them.
  3. Catch up on reviews or other posts.
  4. Start a new blog meme or event
  5. Brainstorm ideas for blog.
  6. Start a Social Media profile you don't have yet./
  7. Change the Design/Template of your blog.
  8. Do the "paperwork" of having a blog
  9. Moderate/Pick Winners of Giveaways that have ended.
  10. Review an Item
  11. Clean up your labels/tags
  12. Read about blogging

As you can see it doesn't have to always involve the blog directly, maybe not even the computer. You could be sorting review items in your house, brainstorming with pen and paper, or cleaning up your email box.

INCENTIVE

I know sometimes it can be hard to get things done that need to be done. Even though we enjoy blogging, there are some parts of it that overwhelm as at times. So I've got some incentive for you.
  1. We will have mini challenges! A chance to learn something new about an aspect of blogging.
  2. We will have prizes! I'm getting some sponsors and we will pick random participants to win and those who participate in mini challenges will have a chance to win.
  3. I'll be posting updates throughout the event with check ins for how you are doing, links to the mini challenges and maybe some fun stuff.
I have three different sign ups below. You can sign up for one, two or all three.  Make sure you sign up as a participant or you won't be eligible for prizes. You can sign up as a mini challenge host and not participate in the blogathon but if you want to do both, sign up for both.

Participants  - This means you want to play along. You will work on your blog during the appointed weekend as much as you can. You can participate in mini challenges if you want (they are optional). Be eligible for prizes. SIGN UP AS PARTICIPANT HERE

Mini Challenge Hosts - This means you are interested in hosting a mini challenge during the event. You will come up with your own idea for a post and challenge and post it on your blog during the appointed time. You will monitor for comments and questions. Mini challenges are to learn something new. So you could talk about an aspect of blogging and then ask a question or ask for a short task. If you want to host but don't have ideas, let me know. SIGN UP AS A MINI CHALLENGE HOST HERE

Co-hosts - This means you are willing to take on a few responsibilities. You should have all or part of the weekend free. I can't post updates or help people all the time so I'd like to have 4 hour shifts or something with at least 3 other people. As a co-host you would help recruit participants and help secure sponsors for prizes before the event. During the event you would post updates and links to mini challenges, make sure those hosting mini challenges during your shifts put them up, answer anyone's questions tweet during the event with the specified hashtag and comments on participants updates. Please don't apply to be a cohost unless you post at least 5 times a month on your blog (so I know you are active and won't disppear when the event comes) and you can commit to helping. SIGN UP AS A COHOST HERE

I don't want to require it but PLEASE, if you sign up as a participant, consider posting about it with the logo above so others can find this event and join in. Anything you can do to spread the word would be MUCH appreciated.

You can use the following code to add the button to your site or wherever:

        Getting Back in the Sack After a Baby

        Image: photostock / FreeDigitalPhotos.net
        Having a baby is a big change and it affects all parts of your life. You are instructed to wait 6 weeks after birth to restart intercourse generally to allow your body to heal.

        If you had a vaginal birth, you may have had an episiotomy which you will want to heal completely. If you had a Cesarean, you had major surgery and need to not do anything strenuous for 6 weeks.

        However going to your 6 week appointment does not mean you will be ready physically or emotionally.

        Reasons you may not be ready:
        1. If you had a bad tear or even just a regular episiotomy, doesn't mean at 6 weeks it won't hurt anymore. Not to scare anyone but I had a fourth degree tear with my second child and it still was a bit painful to have sex over a year later. (Although we only waited 8 weeks to resume sex - I just dealt with the pain.)
        2. You are dealing with an influx of emotions as your hormones change and you are in love with your new baby. You may be dealing with baby blues or even just be so in love with the baby that you only want to take care of him or her.
        3. You're tired. Notice I didn't say you MAY be tired. All new moms are tired, some more than others, it all depends on how the baby sleeps although in general, it's not much the first few weeks since they have to eat so often.
        4. You may be breastfeeding and some women struggle with the idea of your breasts being used for food and for sex at the same time. (For that matter, there are husbands who refuse to touch or kiss a women's breasts when she's breastfeeding.)
        5. You may be afraid of getting pregnant again. You should have talked birth control at your 6 week appointment. Make sure you are implementing your preferred method and use any backup birth control you need to, depending on what you picked. Remember you can get pregnant BEFORE your period returns.
        Remember, you do NOT have to have sex again until you are ready. Just don't ignore your man completely. Spend some time together when the baby is asleep, kiss and hug, or even do other "bed" things other than sex.  Explain to your  man why you are not ready so he doesn't think it's something he did.

        When you are ready, take it slow. If you had a tear or episiotomy, go on top so you can be in control. Trust me.

          Brand New Baby Sponsor Spotlight: Baby Bond

          NOTE: If you are here from a blog hop, please leave a comment on this post instead.

          One of the potential problems nursing mother's face is how to nurse in public without feeling like you are exposing yourself to everyone.

          Putting a blanket over your baby never works for four reasons:
          1. You can't see to position baby.
          2. Many babies don't want a blanket over their head
          3. You can't see baby and connect/bond.
          4. It can get hot!
          Baby Bond is a nursing sash that covers mom, NOT baby.

          There are three types: Original, Flex and Couture.

          Check back for a review and giveaway soon or if you don't want to wait, you can use the code CALLISTA to get 25% off when you purchase your very own Baby Bond. Also if you comment on this post before the giveaway goes up, you can have an extra 2 entries into the giveaway when it's posted.

          Guest Post: The Reasons Why Babies Cry and Tips On How to Soothe Them

          The following is a guest post as part of The Brand New Baby Event.

          Check back for reviews, giveaways, guest posts and more.

          ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
          It’s normal for babies to cry. It helps them develop their lungs and it is the only way they have of communicating. Some babies cry more than others. Some perfectly healthy babies can have daily crying spells that last a couple of hours, particularly during the first five months of their lives. For parents it can be an unnerving and exhausting experience. Trying to discover the reason your baby is crying requires patience along with a little trial and error. Through the process of elimination, you can rule out possible causes, starting with the most common reasons and working your way down the list.
          The Checklist – Determining what your baby is trying to tell you
          Ø  I’m hungry. For very young infants, this is the most common reason for crying. They need frequent, small feedings and will usually stop crying once their small stomachs are full.
          Ø  I’m uncomfortable. Some babies will alert you as soon as their nappies need changing. They may also cry because they are lying in an uncomfortable position, or their sensitive skin is being irritated by scratchy fabric or labels in their clothing, or clothing that is too tight. If your baby does have sensitive skin then it’s worth contemplating purchasing an organic cot bed mattress which will be chemical free
          Ø  I’m cold or too hot. Most babies are very sensitive to cold. They like to be warm but not too hot. Generally, an ambient temperature of around 18 degrees C / 64 degrees F is ideal. Touch the skin on their abdomen to gauge how cold or hot they are. Simply added or removing clothes will solve the problem.
          Ø  I want to be held. Some babies need more close physical contact than others.
          Ø  I’m tired. Just like anyone else, babies can become over stimulated and unable to settle down. A cranky, fussy, overtired baby will usually settle down in calm, quiet surroundings.
          Ø  I’m in pain. Gas pains are common as babies have a tendency to swallow air when feeding or crying. If you suspect gas, try burping the baby or laying the infant on its back and moving the legs in a pedaling motion. Check for signs of teething by rubbing your finger over the infant’s gums. Also be alert for signs of fever, congestion, rashes, etc. and contact your pediatrician if you have any concerns.
          Probably the most difficult thing for parents to deal with is when they have run through the checklist only to conclude their baby is crying for no apparent reason.  Their bundle of joy has turned into a screaming banshee and they are at a loss on how to console the infant. Here are a few tips on soothing a crying baby that have worked for other parents.
          Ø  Get moving. Many babies are soothed by motion. Rocking them, putting them in a baby swing, walking around the house holding them, taking them out for a walk in their pushchairs, or for a ride in the car, will often do the trick. When filling the new baby’s room with nursery furniture it’s worth leaving a space for a big comfy nursing chair near to the cot to ease the burden of the night time feeding routine.
          Ø  Try sound and music. Many babies respond well to music, particularly if it has a rhythmic, regular beat, reminiscent of the sound of their mother’s heartbeat while they were in the womb. They also can be soothed by white noise. Try placing the infant child close to a running washer, dryer or dishwasher and if it works, consider purchasing a white noise machine.
          Ø  Try hydrotherapy or massage. If you have a baby that enjoys bath-time, they will likely be soothed by a warm bath and the sound of running water. Gently massaging the baby’s back and tummy can also be very calming.
          Ø  Remain calm. This can seem like a tall order, particularly when you are dealing with a baby who won’t stop crying. But babies will pick up on your anxiety and tension and it only serves to increase their agitation. If you are feeling overwhelmed, take a break; ask for help and let someone else look after the infant for a time. And remember, this too shall pass. As your baby grows and develops new ways of communicating, the crying will become a thing of the past.
          The Brand New Baby Event Starts Now
          Life has been pretty good for our family with the addition of baby Liam on March 29/11. He'll be 7 weeks old tomorrow and we're pretty settled in now. He's nursing well, he wakes up about 2-3 times a night but mostly goes right back to sleep and he doesn't cry too much during the day.
          I'm finally ready to bring you The Brand New Baby Event. It's not as large as I'd hoped but that's okay because May and June are busy months for me, especially now.  Over the next little while, expect some sponsor highlights, reviews, guest posts, giveaways and anything else I throw in.
          Starting... NOW!
