Bumbo Baby Seat Recall (Canada and US)

Note: The following information is from the Bumbo Canada website but the recall is applicable to the US as well.

Bumbo Chair Recall

“August 15, 2012 – Bumbo International Trust is conducting a voluntary recall to add a restraint belt and new warnings to the Bumbo® Baby Seat. Infants can maneuver out of or fall from the seat, posing a risk of serious injuries. Working closely with the Health Canada, Bumbo has determined that the potential safety issue can be readily corrected in the home by adding a restraint belt. In addition, Bumbo is providing a new warning sticker for consumers to attach to the seat to re-emphasize existing warnings against use of the seat on any raised surfaces.”

There is no need to send back the seat. You just have to send for a kit with restraint belt and new warning stickers. Do not use your Bumbo seat until it is fixed.

Seats Affected:

The Bumbo® Baby Seats were sold in the Canada by retailers including Toys"R"Us, Babies"R"Us, and various other toy and children’s stores nationwide, and various online sellers. The seats were sold in various colors from August 2003 through August 2012.

The Bumbo® Baby Seats were sold in the United States by retailers including Target, Wal-Mart, Sears, Toys"R"Us, Babies"R"Us, USA Babies and various other toy and childrens stores nationwide, and various online sellers. The seats were sold in various colors from August 2003 through August 2012 for between $30-50.

For more information on determining if your seat is affected, see your corresponding site:

My 5 Year Old Poet #poetry

The following poems were written by my five year old. I typed the words as she said them. I hit enter when she paused. All she did was draw a little picture of the subject of each and then recite a poem about it. It’s not like she planned it, wrote it down, tweaked it, etc.

5yearoldpoet

I will be sharing any comments with her so please share what you think.

When the flowers bloom, what you see,
you can see tiger lilies and tulips.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is the phone
you see buttons
so you can call people
if they are close or far away
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The kites
when people fly it in the air
they see how beautiful it is
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When you see rainbows
in the sky
They got beautiful colours
for everyday.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The sun shines on the flowers
The rain makes them bloom
When you see flowers
they always smell good
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Different shapes in the world
Different kinds of shapes
Like hearts and circles
You see them all around
Doesn't matter how many there are
There are shapes all around.
You see them almost like every day
These are the shapes
It's a Bird, It's a Potato... it's, a potato!
This is a REAL potato I took from the bag of potatoes my husband got from the store. I didn't do anything to change it, this is what it looks like for real.
Nature can be really cool.
Have you ever had a potato that looked strange?
Why is an Orange Called an Orange?
Why is and Orange Called and Orange?
Photo Created Using Image from Fr Antunes on Flickr
Reading Why is an Orange Called an Orange? by Cobi Ladner inspired me to look into this question. I thought I'd share my findings here.
The book asks why an Orange is called an Orange if a Banana is not called a Yellow and Blueberries aren't called Blues.
What I didn't realize is that the fruit wasn't named after the colour. The colour got it's name from the fruit.
Why an Orange is Called an Orange
The word orange comes from Sanskrit nārangah (orange tree). Other European languages adapted the word - Persian nārang, Armenian nārinj, Arabic nāranj, (Spanish naranja and Portuguese laranja), Late Latin arangia, Italian arancia or arancio, and Old French orenge, in chronological order. The first appearance of the word Orange in English is from the 14th century.
Before this was introduced to the English-speaking world, the colour was referred to (in Old English) as geoluhread, which translates into Modern English as yellow-red.
The first recorded use of orange as a colour name in English was in 1512, in the court of King Henry VIII.
The name of the colour is derived from the fruit, first appearing in this sense in 1542.
Extra for word-lovers:
The forms of the word starting with n- are older (like naranja), and this initial n- may have been mistaken as part of the indefinite article, in languages with articles ending with an -n sound (e.g., in French une norenge may have been taken as une orenge), a process called juncture loss.
What a Cruel Idea
I was looking at writing prompts the other day and came across this one:
"Something happened overnight. The Internet has been destroyed. Your favorite Web sites are gone. You can't check Email. You can't blog.
Finish the story" -
link
That's not even funny! Don't joke about that, you've got me scared! What a cruel idea!
I mean really, what would happen if the internet had been destroyed? I would cease to exist.
Writer's Block
Ever since I got more serious with my book blog I just haven't felt like posting much here. I have to think for hours before I can come up with something to say (how did I post every day before??) I haven't done Saturday Linkage because I haven't had time to browse the net to have links to share.
I'm keeping this blog open for games, random posts and thoughts, and such but it won't be updated as often. I'll be lucky if I can post every two weeks.
Sorry to anyone who used to frequent this blog and perhaps enjoyed what I had to say.
You may have noticed I haven't posted lately. I've had a splitting migraine for two days straight and this is the first time I've been able to go on the computer. I've been catching up with email today so tomorrow I'll get back to blogging.
Where I'm Going:
Sunday I'm leaving to do summer camp and I'll be gone till next Friday. On Sunday before I leave I'll be posting my Monday Linkage post but then there won't be any new posts till Friday or Saturday.
