Using Google+ For Your Blog

I was reading an article at Social Moms: PinaTwitBook? Where To Spend Your Social Media Efforts and it mentioned how Google+ isn't being used much by bloggers yet with regards to traffic and interaction.
"One thing that was extremely interesting in the results of this survey was that even though Google+ was an option on every question, not one single person chose Google+ as a place to interact with their audience."

I joined Google+ in July 2011 when I first heard about it from a blogging website. I was curious about what it was like and it was invite only back then so I got myself an invite and checked it out. I liked the simplicity of the design and lack of games but wasn't sure what to put there. I didn't know if I should just be posting what I post on facebook and twitter there or original content. I didn't really use it.

In November 2011 I added a page for this blog because I heard that Google Friend Connect was going away for non-blogger blogs and since I had planned to move to wordpress (I still do) I wanted to start building my Google+ fan base. I haven't built Google+ pages for my other blogs yet.

I try to check in to Google+ at least once a week but it takes some time to change your routine. Now with the addition of Pinterest, checking in there has been added to my list.

Now that when you +1 an article or blog post, you can add a note and post it to your Google+ profile, I can share interesting reads with my followers (circlers?) My problem is figuring out what to use my two profiles for (personal and blog.) Whereas my personal account on facebook is for family/friends only, I have no problem adding those I only know online to my Google+. When I recommend something I'm reading, it posts to my personal profile. My blog profile is updates about my blog exclusvely. That means if you are interested in what I think and like, you will want to follow my personal account as well as my blog account (if you like my blog.)

If you want to +1 this post, you can use the button below.

So tell me, do you use Google+? If you are a blogger, do you put unique content or rehash what's on your facebook and twitter? Do you see much interaction on it? If you are NOT a blogger, do you follow bloggers on Google+? Do you comment/+1? If not why not?

  1. I don't have time and don't want to take the time to do much with Google+. I see more benefit in using twitter and facebook more. I do +1 posts, but they go to my personal profile.

  4. To me it seems like all the bloggers hopped on over to G+ and opened an account or two because you're "supposed to", but there is very little real interaction going on. Like Jen said, it feels like a ghost town. And I don't really get why, because it is really just Facebook all over again. If things are jumping on FB, why not over here?

    1. Yes I agree with you and Jen that it feels like a ghost town most of the time. Have you tried following bloggers other than mom or review bloggers though? There is a bit more interaction going on with a different set, most of them men.

Did you hear the saying, "Men are from Google+, Women are from Pinterest" ??

  5. I don't use google +....
too many things to be on top on and most of communication is on FB and Twitter etc...

  6. Same as all the above. Signed up right away and then never went back. I don't have time to add another task that seems pointless. G+ had a bang off the start, but fizzled almost as fast. I found it hard to understand the circles and frankly, Facebook takes up a lot of my time anyway.

I've recently brushed up my G+ profile, and am going to start adding +1s to things, just to share, but I don't really intend to use it much, unless it becomes mandatory for success.

  7. I have a personal and blog page set up. I plus one all my own posts and posts I want to share with others. Results for search have gone up dramatically. As far as sharing personal stuff, I just don't. I only share my posts, that's it. I comment on others, spend about 1/2 hour each day checking in, not much really but it's become a habit. FB is used more for personal things b/c it's already set up with all my family and friends. What I like about G+ is all my blog friends are there so I can follow their posts easier than visiting individual FB pages.

  8. I set one up and added people. I even add my new content from my blog but that's about where it ends.
It is getting used about as much as my Pinterest account...(not much)
At this point, I don't even care if it affects my online ranking, it doesn't seem worth it to me.
Oh, you'll have to excuse me, I hear the google police coming to take me away!!

  9. I have google plus and try to venture over once a week.. I feel sometimes I should be there more often but time slips away from me.

I feel like there is not a whole lot of interaction going on over on google+ but that is just my opinion.

  10. I've yet to REALLY use G+ and I usually post what I think people would like to see from my FB or Twitter.
